The REACH legislation (EC 1907/2006) came into force on June 1, 2007. The aim of REACH is to improve the protection of human health and the environment through better and earlier identification of the intrinsic properties of chemical substances.

Registration
The substances that Total produces or imports in the European Union, including monomers like ethylene, propylene and styrene were registered before December 1, 2010. The information about the registration status is reported on the substance safety data sheet available on Total Petrochemicals website. Under the regulation, polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene are exempted from registration.
Polymer grades are preparations and Total is downstream user of many substances used as raw materials. Total is working closely with the suppliers to ensure registration of the raw materials that it purchases or imports into the European Union. Total is quite confident of retaining the production and marketing of its polymers without any disruption.
